Distribution
C. arcanus is almost confined to western and northern Britain. It is widespread in north-western and central Europe, but has not been recorded from the Netherlands.Habitat and ecology
This linyphiid is typically found beneath rocks in mountainous areas and can be found together with C. prudens. At lower altitudes C. arcanus lives amongst moss, grass and pine needles in coniferous woodland and acidic bogs. Adults have been recorded in most months of the year.Status
