Spider Recording Scheme and Harvestman Recording Scheme

The Spider and Harvestman Recording Schemes are run by the British Arachnological Society. One of the main aims of the recording schemes is to provide up-to-date data on the distribution and ecology of spiders and harvestmen in Britain. This helps contribute towards spider conservation.

The data available on the BAS Atlas have been gathered by the Spider Recording Scheme since 1987, representing over 1.3 million records. These records are maintained on the iRecord platform in our own dedicated BAS dataset.

Anybody can submit a British record of a Spider, Harvestman or Pseudoscorpion to us using our bespoke iRecord form. It is particularly helpful if you can include photographic evidence with your record, since this helps with the verification process.

The recording schemes have a network of voluntary Area Organisers (Vice County Recorders) who are responsible for verifying records on iRecord and stimulating recording interest in their area.
