Distribution
The species is widespread throughout much of Britain, but apparently absent or very rare in some areas such as East Anglia. It is widespread in north-western and central Europe.Habitat and ecology
C. brevis is found in a similar range of habitats to C. brevipes, but with more records from drier situations (Crocker & Daws 1996). It has been recorded from a wide variety of woodland, heathland, grassland and wetland sites, with woodland litter the favoured habitat. Adults have been recorded throughout the year, with the highest numbers in early to mid-summer.Status
Less common than C. brevipes in Scotland and at higher altitudes, more common at lower altitudes and in the Midlands and parts of the south of England. Original author of profile: J.M.
