Distribution
This spider is widespread in much of southern Britain, with a very few records in northern England and Scotland. Globally H. graminicola has a Palaearctic Distribution: (Platnick 1998) and is widespread in north-western and central Europe, although it has not been recorded from Norway.Habitat and ecology
This spider constructs a thick, white, silken retreat in shrubs usually in the vicinity of open water. It favours gorse bushes, but can also be found on hawthorn and blackthorn. Specimens have also been taken from pine and yew trees in churchyards as well as on heather (Crocker & Daws 1996). Adults of both sexes have been recorded between May and October, but mostly in early summer.Status
