Species Details
- Species name
- Porrhoclubiona leucaspis (Simon, 1932)
- Taxonomy
- Animalia :: Araneae :: Clubionidae
Distribution
First recorded in Glasgow University in 2011, this species has been collected at three widely separated localities in Britain. Apart from the Glasgow specimen which was found in the collector’s hair, another specimen was photographed in 2021 in Cambridge on a car bonnet and the third was from indoors in a garden centre in Cadbury, Somerset in 2022. Although two specimens were collected out of doors, they were both in urban sites and at present it is not thought that the species has established in the wild. It is widespread in western Europe although absent from Scandinavia and some Balkan countries.Habitat and ecology
The collection sites in Britain give little indication of what its natural habitat might be. In France it is widely distributed and has been collected in both deciduous and pine woodland, in garrigue and sand dunes, often on or beneath the bark of tree trunks.Status
