Distribution

The species is widespread in northern and western Britain north of a line from the Severn to the Humber. A European species fairly widespread in north-western and central Europe, but has not been recorded from the Netherlands, the Czech Republic or Hungary.

Habitat and ecology

A northern species found almost exclusively in pine needles and leaf litter in woodland, and in sphagnum bogs where it may be common locally (J. Newton, pers. comm.). Adults occur mainly in late spring and early summer, but are occasionally found at other times of year.
