Species Details
- Species name
- Theonoe minutissima (O.P.-Cambridge, 1879)
- Taxonomy
- Animalia :: Araneae :: Theridiidae
Distribution
The species is widespread in western and northern Britain but absent from most of south-central and eastern England. It is widespread in north-western and central Europe.Habitat and ecology
This species is even smaller and more like a linyphiid spider than Pholcomma gibbum. Like that spider, it is usually found at ground level under stones and in moss etc. but may also be swept from taller vegetation. It has been recorded from a variety of habitats including sphagnum bogs, heathland and damp places in woodland. Adults have been recorded in most months of the year, possibly with a peak in April.Status
Apparently uncommon, but possibly under-recorded due to its small size. Original author of profile: P. Lee Text based on Harvey, P.R., Nellist, D.R. & Telfer, M.G. (eds) 2002. Provisional atlas of British spiders (Arachnida, Araneae), Volumes 1 & 2. Huntingdon: Biological Records Centre.Stats
