Habitat and ecology

This species is found in moss and detritus, particularly in coniferous woodland, but also in more open grassland and, less frequently, under stones. In his study of the habitats of spiders on heathland, Snazell showed that W. cucullata preferred low, rather damp situations (Snazell 1982). Adults have been recorded in most months of the year but mostly from March to May, with perhaps a shorter period of activity in the autumn (Merrett 1969).
