Distribution
The species is widespread throughout much of Britain. A Palaearctic species, widespread in most of north-western and central Europe.Habitat and ecology
E. hiemalis has been recorded in a variety of habitats, including damp marshy areas, grass and leaf litter, and by sweeping the field layer in woodland. Adults have been recorded throughout the year with a main peak in spring and early summer.Status
